MIT Fellowship Supports Advanced Materials Research

I am deeply grateful to the Dobkin Intuitive Foundation for their fellowship support during my dissertation year. My research focuses on the creation of transparent conductive coatings made from petrochemical waste products, and thanks to the Dobkin Intuitive Foundation’s support, I was able to take this research in a new and exciting direction, using scaleable manufacturing techniques to create prototype commercial devices. This is an important step for any new technology, and would not have been possible without this fellowship. – Owen Morris

The Robert and Kathleen Dobkin Intuitive Foundation Fellowship supports one academic year of research in the area of coatings, with preference to those whose research has implications for the field of electronics.

From biological sensors and better building materials to next-generation electronic and implantable therapeutics, advanced materials are at the heart of our society’s key technology needs. As a result, tomorrow’s advances will require radical improvements in those underlying materials.

This Fellowship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the Department of Material Science & Engineering was awarded in the Fall of 2018. It will drive innovation with a fearless approach to difficult problems. The Fellowship will also take faculty research out of the lab and through to real-world impact in the following ways:

  • Bolster scientific advancements in the field
  • Teach or mentor students on materials science
  • Bring achievements to light through open access publications and patent filings
  • Translate discoveries to real-world applications through industry partnerships and new companies
